For the first time in school history, Gateway College Prep is sending a runner to the Class 4A State Cross Country Meet! Congrats to senior Max Rodriguez of Round Rock! We are proud of your hard work and dedication!
Recognizing the outstanding work done to set a path for college success, Gateway College Preparatory High School has been recognized on the 2024 College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP®) School Honor Roll.
The College Board acknowledges schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
“This award is a testament to our founding mission to prepare students for post-secondary education that best fit their individual needs,” said Nolberto Reyna, Dean of Admissions and College Readiness at Gateway College Prep. “To be a successful school with rigorous academics is a community-wide effort, from teachers and administration to students and parents.”
Honored schools receive Bronze to Platinum recognition based on metrics of college culture, credit and optimization. Gateway College Prep earned Gold distinction. In addition, Gateway earned the AP Access Award, which distinguishes schools who encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses.
“AP gives students opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”
AP Exam Registration is now open through November 10th for all AP Courses for the 2024-25 school year!

It’s not every day a civic organization receives a phone call from an eighth grader inviting themselves to a club meeting. But then again Carter Klingemann isn’t your average teenager. Last year she did her homework, looking into Rotary International, the largest service club in the world, and wondered if she could bring their sponsored service club for teens to Gateway.
“We had a lack of clubs and service hours are required for graduation,” said Carter, adding that an added benefit are the scholarship opportunities provided by Rotary.
Armed with facts, campus administrators where impressed with Carter’s presentation and gave the green light. It was time for Carter to find an advisor from the Gateway staff. She reached out to Ms. Grimm, the secondary science instructor.
“The more I looked at the opportunity and the passion Carter had, the more I wanted to be on the team,” said the first-year Gateway teacher.
No stranger to school clubs (Ms. Grimm was Advisor of the Year at her previous high school) she was nonetheless impressed with Carter’s energy, enthusiasm and inclusion of classmates.
“Carter really spearheaded this and is excited to give back to our communities,” said Ms. Grimm. “Through civic clubs, students can enhance their leadership abilities and gain insights about themselves, and feel assured that every voice counts.”
With an interest meeting drawing 70 Gators, the new club is well on it’s way, already making plans to conduct a food drive for The Caring Place, a Georgetown organization providing basic human needs to our community.
“I’m proud to be a part of this important club and honored to service as Vice President,” said freshman Giuliana Corpuz, a Gateway Gator since kindergarten.
The Gateway College Prep Interact Club has plenty of time to grow - of the seven newly elected officers, four are freshmen. One of the upper classman explained why she joined, even with a full schedule and working a job.
“I like to volunteer and be a part of a team,” said junior Aubrey Zander.
The Interact Club meets every second and fourth Wednesday in Room 422. For more information, contact the club at rotarygateway1@gmail.com.
