Gateway Launches Rotary Interact Club

It’s not every day a civic organization receives a phone call from an eighth grader inviting themselves to a club meeting.  But then again Carter Klingemann isn’t your average teenager.  Last year she did her homework, looking into Rotary International, the largest service club in the world, and wondered if she could bring their sponsored service club for teens to Gateway.

“We had a lack of clubs and service hours are required for graduation,” said Carter, adding that an added benefit are the scholarship opportunities provided by Rotary.

Armed with facts, campus administrators where impressed with Carter’s presentation and gave the green light.  It was time for Carter to find an advisor from the Gateway staff.  She reached out to Ms. Grimm, the secondary science instructor.

“The more I looked at the opportunity and the passion Carter had, the more I wanted to be on the team,” said the first-year Gateway teacher.

No stranger to school clubs (Ms. Grimm was Advisor of the Year at her previous high school) she was nonetheless impressed with Carter’s energy, enthusiasm and inclusion of classmates.

“Carter really spearheaded this and is excited to give back to our communities,” said Ms. Grimm. “Through civic clubs, students can enhance their leadership abilities and gain insights about themselves, and feel assured that every voice counts.”

With an interest meeting drawing 70 Gators, the new club is well on it’s way, already making plans to conduct a food drive for The Caring Place, a Georgetown organization providing basic human needs to our community.

“I’m proud to be a part of this important club and honored to service as Vice President,” said freshman Giuliana Corpuz, a Gateway Gator since kindergarten.

The Gateway College Prep Interact Club has plenty of time to grow - of the seven newly elected officers, four are freshmen.  One of the upper classman explained why she joined, even with a full schedule and working a job.

“I like to volunteer and be a part of a team,” said junior Aubrey Zander.

The Interact Club meets every second and fourth Wednesday in Room 422.  For more information, contact the club at rotarygateway1@gmail.com.

Three Gators Honored by National Merit Scholarship Program

(September 30, 2024) GEORGETOWN, TX —Gateway College Preparatory School is excited to announce that Wyatt Gass has been named a semifinalist for a National Merit Scholarship award.

Wyatt, a senior at Gateway Prep, has the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring.  The nationwide pool of semifinalists, including Wyatt, represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Recognized as “Commended Students” at Prep were seniors Brendan Imbriano and Ariana Panjwani. While not moving on to the next round, Brendan and Ariana demonstrated outstanding academic success, placing them in the top 50,000 students of the 1.3 million who entered the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

This is the third year in a row Gateway College Prep has had a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship. Last year, Ian Craig and Rohan Kharel were semifinalists.  In 2023, Matthew Bidwell earned the first Merit Scholar title in Gateway College Preparatory School history.
